Hot Off the PRESS! Cam tries selling off Friends and Mr. Galati….

We wrapped up Unit 1 and everyone did very well on the assessment. Back to basics with the start of Unit 2, addition and subtraction. One thing I noticed was that some of the kids struggled when decimals were involved.

Students enjoyed writting some classified ads this week, you should ask them to share them with you. Items ranged from bikes to best friends. The kids did have a lot fun with the assigment.

In our read-a-loud book Sam had a little Halloween trouble and is in need of a bath! Kids have been doing a great job making connections and predicting events.

In S.S. we started off with some Spanish Conquistadors and wrapped up today with a look at Samuel De Champlain.

At Poetry Time today everyone did a fabulous job presenting in front of the class.

Have a great weekend, Try to stay dry!

Record Breaking Betty Botter TIMES….

Well folks if you can believe it, the record for this years class is 6.59 seconds.

The record is shared by two students Mariah  Lavallee and  Amanda Rogers. Emily Shimek and Jordon Lickert both were around 7.5 seconds. The parent with the fastest time goes to John G. (9.81 seconds), but since I could not find any video for proof, you can all enjoy watching Michelle O’Donnell with a time of 12 seconds on Americas Funiest Home Videos Next Friday on ABC !!!! (Actually it is just up on youtube…) Only Kidding.

Our first field trip will be on Oct. 24, the entire fifth grade will be hiking around Indian Brook Resevoir and doing some team building activities. Permission slips will be heading home early next week.

Our Unit 1 math test will be next Tuesday, a review sheet will be coming home with your child on Monday. If you initial the review sheet, you can earn your kiddo some extra points on the test.

Have a great weekend

3-2-1 Blast-OFFFF!!!!

We had a really great time this week in Science. Students built and launched rockets, everyone stayed pretty dry, myself included.

Math class is rolling right along. We are working on factors and divisibility rules.

Our classs read-aloud has created some very interesting art work.

Ask your student who got the best time for “Betty Botter”?

Have a great weekend

What a great week of POETRY…. 9/9

Students did a wonderful job this week working on couplets and completing a BIOpoem. Ask your poet to explain to you about the two types of poems we worked on this week. We are going to use their BIOpoem to create a mural in our classroom.

In math we worked on factors, turn around facts and rectangular arrays. One of the greatest ways to help your student in math this year is to practice their multiplication facts. If you need a set of multiplication or division cards, just let me know.

Science is about to blast off!!!! We covered the Scientific Process in class this week.  The students can’t wait to start building rockets next week. We will be using empty soda bottles (one and two liter) to build our rockets. If you would not mind sending in a bottle or two with your child on Monday that would be great.

p.s. please send the caps in also…..
Thanks

Mr. G

The First Few Days OF School

We are off  to a great start. The first day we worked on getting to know one another through some games and interest inventories. We also did a class team building activity with ramps and marbles.  The book I chose for read aloud is my all time favorite book My Side Of The Mountain by Jean George. The class started off the second day by working on a  Free Verse Poem about the first day of school. We also rotated through a couple of different math games in the afternoon. These are just a few of the things we’ve been busy doing . . .  the beginning of the school year is always action packed!  Please make sure you check your child’s Friday folder carefully for important information coming home from the office.  This Blog is new to me, I  hope you will check it regularly for updates (and lots of pictures) from the classroom.  Have a great Labor Day Weekend!.
